Bat Xat develops unique tourism products

Bat Xat highland has climate similar to Sa Pa - one of the places that attracts domestic and foreign tourists. However, the results achieved in Bat Xat's tourism development are not commensurate with the potentials and advantages, the number of tourists is low, the budget revenue from tourism activities is not so high.

With desire to promote and reasonably exploit natural resources, restructure the economy and labor structure, at the same time preserve and promote effectively fine traditional cultural values, over the past years, Bat Xat district has implemented many unique and different tourism products to develop local tourism.

Bat Xat district currently has 35 tourist accommodation establishments and 8 tourist routes and points. In recent years, the district has implemented typical types of tourism such as mountain climbing, agricultural tourism, cultural experience ... and boosted searching, initially put into use new tourism potentials such as Ong Chua Waterfall, Dragon Waterfall, Pu Ta Leng Peak, Pavi Ancient Stone Road. The conservation and promotion of value of intangible cultural heritages are concerned by the party committees and local authorities. The activities have contributed to economic restructuring, creating jobs for workers. Currently, the number of direct and indirect employees in tourism sector of the district is about 280 people, mainly working in motels, homestays and people carrying things for mountain climbers. In the 2016-2020 period, Bat Xat welcomed more than 115 thousand domestic and foreign tourists, an increase of 15% compared to the set target.

To exploit the tourism potential, the district has built the product "Bat Xat - paradise of attractive hiking and adventure sports programs". In which, investment in building 7 trekking routes (recreational activities, outdoor picnics by hiking, mountain climbing, forest trekking for many days), including: The route along the two sides of the stream from Mo Phu Chai to Lao Chai ( Y Ty commune); Choan Then - Thien Sinh waterfall (Y Ty commune); Nhiu Co San (Sang Ma Sao commune) - Pavi ancient stone road- Lai Chau; Sang Ma Sao – Nhieu Co San peak, Sang Ma Sao – Cu Nhu San-Y Ty; Y Ty - Lao Than peak; Trung Leng Ho - Pu Ta Leng Peak.

The district also builds and develops tourism products "Conquering the peak", including: Climbing and conquering Ky Quan San peak (Sang Ma Sao commune) in the direction from Nam Pen 2 village (Sang Ma Sao commune) to the top, going through azalea forest, bamboo forest; to develop a route to conquer Lao Than peak (Y Ty commune) through Alnus nepalensis D.Don forest and Ligusticum striatum field; to invest in building a new climbing route to conquer Pu Ta Leng peak, exploring forest ecosystems, waterfalls and azalea forest; conquering Nhìu Co San peak (Sang Ma Sao commune).

In addition to discovery tourism, Bat Xat district also invests in restoring tourism products through exploiting folk knowledge about herbs and medicinal resources with herbal products, bath medicine, feet-soaking medicine, essential oils and resorts, herbal bath in the communes of Y Ty, Muong Hum ...

Every year, Bat Xat organizes unique and international travel events of the district, such as International Marathon in Y Ty, the international mountain cycling race at Y Ty; mountain climbing at Sam Ma Sao ... Tourist products associated with Bat Xat's own brand such as conquering the peak (Ky Quan San, Lao Than, Nhiu Co San, Pu Ta Leng), tourism experiences on terraced field of Thang Pa valley (flood season, ripe rice season). Bat Xat also built to become a place to keep traditional values, cultural and artistic space in Y Ty and Muong Hum communes; consulting and investing in organizing sightseeing programs and exchange, entertainment activities to prolong stay at community tourism sites; test and build new types of tourism such as kayaking, camping, waterfall climbing ...

Target of the district by 2025 is to welcome 1.2 million tourist arrivals, tourism revenue is to reach 1,980 billion Vietnam dong and increase the number of accommodation establishments and tourist services to 150 establishments. In order to achieve the above targets, in 2020, the district will organize to welcome delegations of Famtrip, Presstrip (for travel agencies and press) to experience the introduction of Bat Xat tourism image, then to apply Special promotions for domestic and international tourists in Bat Xat to overcome seasonality in tourism. In particular, the district focuses on implementing gold promotion months for tourists, participating in important fairs to introduce tourism products.

Mr. Pham Van Tam, Head of Culture - Information Department of Bat Xat district, said: Bat Xat still has many potentials for tourism development that have not been exploited. Building a unique tourism product is a necessary direction to promote local advantages. In addition, the experience activities of immersing in nature in Bat Xat are very suitable in the difficult context of tourism decline due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.
