Industry in Lao Cai is a bright spot in economic development

In 2020, although influenced by the Covid-19 pandemic, the industrial production of Lao Cai still has many highlights. The group of sectors with a fast recovery with a decent growth rate (an increase of 12.5% compared to 2019), largely contributes to the province's economic growth.

Facing the general difficulties of the economy in the first months of 2020, causing a sharp decline in industrial production, along with the active operation of enterprises, Lao Cai has implemented measures to support businesses in importing technical experts, importing raw materials, machinery, equipment, and consuming products, production activities were recovered and had high growth rates. The value of industrial production in 2020 has exceeded 2.4% of the plan, reaching 37,050.8 billion VND, an increase of 12.5% ​​compared to 2019, exceeding 10.6% of the target of the Resolution of the Provincial Party Congress XV proposed to 2020. In the field of mining industry, due to the stable operation of the Ta Phoi copper project and the expansion of Sin Quyen copper selection, the output is high. Stable apatite excavation.

It is noteworthy that the development of processing and manufacturing industries with the production of yellow phosphorus, fertilizers, and phosphoric acid has increased yields. Due to stable rainfall from mid-2020, along with the completion of 7 more hydroelectric plants (bringing the total number of completed projects to 61 plants), Lao Cai has promoted its hydropower potential, with a total production value of 7,907 billion VND, exceeding 3% of the plan, an increase of 35.5% compared to 2019. Up to now, 100% of communes, wards, and towns in Lao Cai have access to the national grid; 96.2% of groups, villages and hamlets, and 96.1% of households have electricity from the national grid.

Besides, with the interest in developing and promoting the efficiency of industrial promotion capital, the value of handicraft production of the province reached 2,976.2 billion VND, exceeding 0.9%, up 13.7% compared to that of the province in 2019. Currently, the province has over 5,768 handicraft production establishments, creating jobs for over 15,648 workers, an average income of over 4 million VND/person/month.

The province has 3 industrial zones in operation, total area is 1,285ha; an ongoing industrial park with an area of 1,000 ha; 1 industrial park processing, processing, packaging import and export goods with an area of 228 ha. Along with 12 industrial clusters with a total area of 145.67ha ... has attracted 146 production and business establishments, occupancy rate reaches 100%, annual revenue is nearly 200 billion VND, attracts more than 800 employees, the average income is from 4 to 4.5 million/person/month.

In 2021, Lao Cai province sets a target of an industrial production value of 40,400 billion VND, an increase of 9% compared to 2020; handicraft production value reached 3,000 billion VND, an increase of 0.8% compared to 2020. To achieve this goal, in 2021, Lao Cai province continues to focus on solving difficulties for industrial production units before the COVID-19 pandemic is still undergoing complicated developments. In which, create favorable conditions for enterprises importing machinery, equipment, experts and raw materials for production. At the same time, implementing solutions to improve the business environment and improve competitiveness for businesses; mobilize investment resources for infrastructure projects in the field of Industry and Trade, focusing on grid infrastructure, industrial clusters, infrastructure for import and export; to manage mineral mining and processing activities to minimize environmental impacts, ensure labor safety and protect national resources.
