The Museum of Lao Cai province: Innovation and creativity in display activities

As one of the units directly under the Department of Culture and Sports pioneering in creativity and innovation, over the past time, the Museum of Lao Cai province has become an attractive destination for the people, especially for all the student levels in Lao Cai city.

Currently, when visiting the Provincial Museum, the viewer's thoughts about the old and boring space have changed by the modern and rich identity design layout. Thousands of documents, artifacts and images are displayed as impressive and vivid stories. Perhaps, this is the reason why the Museum has attracted so many visitors over the years. Only in 2019, the museum attracted 15,338 visitors; in 2021, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, many display and visit activities at the Museum had to be suspended. The Museum has focused on performing specialized tasks of researching, collecting, developing exhibition outlines and communication contents about the Museum.

In order to bring historical and cultural values ​​to the public, especially students at all levels, from 2017 until now, the Museum has strengthened cooperation with schools, building experience programs, clips about cultural heritage; organizing games that combine with education, introducing historical knowledge,.. thereby, creating the bridge to bring vivid knowledge to students. In particular, in 2022, the Museum has signed the program "Organizing educational activities between the Provincial Museum and Nam Cuong Secondary School". This is the first school in Lao Cai province to sign the cooperation program with the Museum. The two parties have agreed on the content of cooperation towards the goal of developing the educational career associated with the School and the Museum; forming for students to participate in learning and studying about the history and culture of Lao Cai ethnic group, nurturing love for the homeland and orienting education, associated with the protection and preservation of ethnic culture of Lao Cai province.

Not satisfying with themselves, the team of officers of the museum is always studying and creative in their professional work. Typically, in introducing the value of artifacts and documents, the Museum also has a new way, which is regularly renewing the display work, with theme subjects: “Love and miss the budget subsidies period”;“Vietnamese New Year”; Toolkit of folk games and cultural experiences of ethnic groups; Biodiversity in Lao Cai; Cultural colors of ethnic groups; Lao Cai Paleolithic and Stone Age; The Metal Age in Lao Cai ....  Organizing extra-curricular sessions, experiential visits for students such as: "Experience of creating patterns and dyeing indigo on fabric; Experience of the process of kneading, molding and drawing ceramic patterns ..... Through the sessions, the students have more understanding about Lao Cai ethnic culture and traditional craft in the locality.

To achieve that result, it requires museum officers to constantly be creative, one of the important works that the Museum focuses on is the quality of educational propaganda through events and artifacts. In addition, innovation from the reception of guests, service, presentation at the display room... Instructors are always present at the display room, guiding visitors. Depending on the subject, there are different interpretations. With the efforts and innovation over the years, the museum's display and education has achieved positive effects, attracting many visitors to visit.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thang - Director of the Museum of Lao Cai province shared: "Over the years, all the officers, staffs and employees of the Museum have constantly strived to improve the quality of activities to attract many visitors to visit. In order to achieve that goal, the collections of artifacts at the Museum are regularly changed, adjusted and supplemented to always create a new and attractive feeling to avoid monotony and boredom. Along with that, the Museum also expands the display space, introduces history and culture to serve the public, especially young people on the occasion of political and social events of the province".
