Lao Cai receives 36,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine for COVID-19 for children from 5 to 11 years old

On May 31, the provincial Center for Control Disease received 36,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine to vaccinate against COVID-19 for children aged 5 to 11 years old.

Pfizer/BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine with orange cap is intended for use in children aged 5 to 11 years.

Pfizer/BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5-11 years has the same active ingredients as the vaccine used in adults and adolescents. However, the Ministry of Health notes that adults should not use Pfizer vaccine to vaccinate children from 5 to 11 years old. Therefore, to avoid confusion with adult vaccines, the bottle of Pfizer vaccine for children aged 5-11 years has orange cap.

There are 2 types of vaccines, Moderna and Pfizer, but the dose for each dose is different, and the age of injection is also different. In the first phase, in April 2022, Lao Cai received 9,500 doses of Modena vaccine from the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology to serve the vaccination campaign against COVID-19 for children aged 5-11 years old.

Currently, vaccination is still being carried out according to the campaign, free of charge at fixed vaccination facilities at ward and commune health stations, mobile injection points and schools. Vaccination against COVID-19 and booster shots are necessary for children to have the best protection and create higher immunity; contributing to limiting the risk of re-infection, even limiting post-COVID-19 syndromes and prolonged COVID-19 status. Parents and caregivers need to keep track of the vaccination schedule to get their children vaccinated in a timely and complete manner.
