Lao Cai youth turn "Every roof into a national flag"

The trend of "turning every roof into a national flag" is spreading strongly across the country, including Lao Cai. Images and videos of painting and drawing the national flag on roofs posted on social networks have created a trend of expressing love for the homeland and country, especially when the National Day on September 2nd is approaching.

As a tiktoker who specializes in creating content related to Vietnamese history and culture, Mr. Vu Khac Hai in Lao Cai ward quickly caught the trend of painting the national flag on the roof of his house. Mr. Hai shared: I learned about this trend through the social network Tiktok and found this trend very meaningful so I started doing it right away. I was very excited to be one of the first people in Lao Cai city to do it and it only took about 2 hours to complete the work of painting the national flag on the corrugated iron roof. After posting the video on Facebook and Tiktok, I received many positive comments.

"This is a very meaningful trend and I have taught my two children a lesson about patriotism and national pride through this image," said Mr. Hai.

On the winding road leading to Ta Van village, Sa Pa town, many tourists are impressed by the image of a homestay with a whole corrugated iron roof painted with the image of a red flag with a yellow star standing out among the green terraced fields of new rice. The owner of that homestay is Mr. Tran Tien Dung (Hanoi). Mr. Dung shared: Our homestay is mainly visited by international guests. The upcoming National Day on September 2nd, we want to spread the image of the Vietnamese national flag so that foreign tourists can understand the meaning of Independence Day and share the joy with the Vietnamese people. This is also a form of combining tourism to promote the image of the patriotic and hospitable Vietnamese people.

Mr. Dung shared more: To have the right proportion of the 5-pointed yellow star, I had to calculate and measure on the computer first, and when I went out in the field, I used a flycam to adjust the angle so that the star was straight and beautiful. Luckily, the entire roof was exactly the right proportion of the national flag.

Recently, a group of three Tay men in Mai Ha village, Xuan Hoa commune, Bao Yen district completed a flag with an area of 35 square meters on a tiled roof in 3 days. Mr. Lo Van Do, the group representative, said: The most difficult thing for the group is that the roof is covered with old, discolored tiles, so we spent a lot of time scrubbing each tile to get the most beautiful red color for the flag background. After the work was completed, many people passing by admired and admired it, making the whole group feel very proud of doing such a meaningful job.

"The image of the national flag is now not only present in government agencies, schools... but also present every day in many people's homes" - Do proudly shared.

Trinh Van Hieu in Cao Son village, Kim Son commune, Bao Yen district also quickly "caught the trend" of painting the national flag with two friends. "My family's corrugated iron roof is not red, so I decided to paint a red background for the flag. The weather these past few days has been hot and sunny, and the corrugated iron roof is sloping, so it was quite difficult to complete the work, but in return the result is very proud. "Looking at the photo taken from above, seeing the image of the red flag with a yellow star standing out on the roof, I suddenly felt an indescribable emotion. It turns out that patriotism is always in the heart of every Vietnamese person" - Hieu said emotionally.

Mr. Nguyen Van Buoi, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Kim Son Commune, Bao Yen District, said: Painting the national flag not only contributes to beautifying the house but is also a way for young people to express their patriotism and national pride. This creative and widespread way of doing things has created solidarity in the community and reminded everyone of national values and national pride. The locality also propagated to people who want to follow the trend of painting the national flag on the roof, they can rely on the ratios in the Constitution and other legal documents, while ensuring safety when doing it on the roof.

Many families who cannot afford to paint the national flag on their roofs still find ways to express their patriotism by painting it on their rolling doors and walls. Regardless of the way it is done, painting the national flag not only beautifies the house, but also spreads patriotism and national pride to those around them, especially the younger generation.

However, cultural experts also note that people should draw and hang the National Flag in beautiful, easy-to-see, airy locations and must ensure the proportions, size, and color of the National Flag according to regulations. To promote the positive aspects, there needs to be management and community awareness in protecting the national symbol.

According to Article 13 of the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam: The national flag of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam is rectangular, with a width equal to two-thirds of its length, a red background, and in the middle is a five-pointed yellow star.
