At the meeting, Ambassador Tshering Wangchuk Sherpa affirmed that India and Indian businesses continue to regard Lao Cai as an important location with strong potential for cooperation and development in fields such as mineral extraction and processing, and high-quality agricultural production chains tied to processing and consumption. He pointed in particular to the potential of developing cinnamon-growing areas linked to the processing of spices and medicinal products — an area in which Indian industry has significant demand for raw-material supply.

India and Lao Cai also have potential for cooperation and exchange in culture, tourism and sports.

In tourism, around 16,000 Indian visitors came to Lao Cai in 2024, a figure that rose to more than 38,000 in 2025.
