Lao Cai plants 41.2 million trees in the 2021-2025 period

Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee has just issued Plan No. 258/KH-UBND to implement the Project "Planting one billion trees in the 2021-2025 period" in the area.

Trees contribute to the protection of the ecological environment.

In order to protect the ecological environment, improve the landscape and respond to climate change, contributing to socio-economic development, improving the quality of people's lives and the sustainable development of the country. Accordingly, in the period of 2021-2025, the province will plant 41.2 million trees, including 10 million scattered trees and 31.2 million concentrated trees. Total cost for implementation is 1,226,000 million VND, of which scattered trees are planted 250,000 million VND; concentrated afforestation 975,000 million VND; Dissemination, propaganda, technical guidance 600 million dong...

In which, planting scattered trees, including urban and rural green trees; Concentrated planting on forestry land (afforestation), including planting new production forests as large timber forests and planting production forests to replace shifting cultivation, excluding the area for planting replacement forests and replanting production forests later exploit.

With the goal of planting 10 million scattered trees (planting trees on land outside the forestry planning) according to the roadmap of planting 2 million trees/year. In which, it is expected that urban areas, concentrated residential areas, planted on streets, parks, flower gardens, squares, campus premises, schools, hospitals, religious works, houses. and other public works… planting about 200,000 trees; an average of 40,000 trees/year.

Street trees must be designed reasonably to have decorative effects, street landscape, climate regulation, non-toxic, dangerous and not affect urban infrastructure works. Trees along canals and rivers must have the effect of preventing erosion, protecting banks and currents, and preventing encroachment on water surface.

Rural areas planted on garden land, traffic corridors, riverside, canals, regional banks, field banks, shifting cultivation; historical and cultural zones, religious zones, industrial clusters, export processing zones; combine protection in agricultural cultivation zones and other scattered small plots… planting about 9,800,000 trees; an average of 1,960,000 trees/year.

Planting trees is concentrated on forestry planning (forestation) land of 19,500 ha, equivalent to about 31.2 million trees (average 3,900 ha of forest planting per year, density of about 1,600 trees/ha, equivalent to 6.24 million trees/year).
