Lao Cai: Recognition of Nghia Do commune, Bao Yen district as tourist destination

Nghia Do is a land which is diverse in cultural identity and revolutionary tradition, following National Highway L279 to the Northwest, located more than 30 km from the center of Pho Rang town, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province.

Nghia Do is the locality with natural and humanistic tourism resources, which are great potential for tourism development and attract a large number of tourists to visit and explore. This is also a land with a rich culture, in which, the Tay ethic group has a long history of residence, creating unique cultural features, customs, and beliefs that are preserved until nowadays.

The Tay ethic group in Nghia Do has many attractive traditional cultural and artistic activities, derived from labor, production and ethnic beliefs such as: Festivals to the fields, folk songs and dances like coi singing, then singing, luon singing, plow and cultivate dance, and musical instruments like gourd lute, bamboo flute, drum, and folk trumpet…   

Coming here, visitors can stay in stilt houses and learn and discover the unique cultural features of the community living in the "basin" area of Nghia Do. They have created treasure of diverse folklore, various in house-building, weddings, funerals, or festivals. Visitors also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the countryside market, watch the scene where people exchange agricultural products, production tools made by themselves and shop for brocade products, traditional clothes as a gift for friends.

Coming to Nghia Do, visitors will come to unique culinary region, enjoy specialties with bold rural identity such as fish wrapped in dong leaves buried in kitchen ashes, blue chrysalis pupa, duck cooked in bamboo tube, forest vegetable salad, grilled mountain frog, coriander, forest banana flower salad, seven-color sticky rice, chicken soup with palanquin, dao wine (alcohol made from the tree in the forest), especially palm sticky rice. As part of the Bao Yen tourism schedule, Nghia Do commune is the attractive eco-tourism destination that visitors can hardly ignore.

On September 9th, 2021, People's Committee of Lao Cai Province issued Decision No. 3281/QD-recognition of Nghia Do commune, Bao Yen district, Lao Cai province as the tourist destination. Nghia Do commune being recognized as the tourist destination will be the opportunity for Nghia Do to preserve and promote its available potentials, that the tourism is invested, upgraded and attracted the attention of a large number of tourists inside and outside the province.
