Lao Cai: Launching the 1st Day of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture, 2022

On the morning of April 13, at Le Quy Don Secondary School, Lao Cai city inter-school cluster, the Provincial People's Committee held the launching ceremony of the first day of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture, 2022 with the theme "Books - Mission to develop reading culture”.

The launching ceremony of the movement was attended by comrades: Dang Xuan Phong, member of the CPV Central Committee, Provincial Party secretary, Head of the Provincial Delegation of the National Assembly, Hoang Quoc Khanh, Member of Provincial Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee, leaders of departments, divisions, branches, districts, towns and cities; teachers and students of schools in Lao Cai city.

Books play a key role in our spiritual life. Reading not only improves knowledge and skills, develops educational thinking but also trains human personality. Books direct people to the truth, the good and the beauty, towards the good things in life, and for a long time, reading has become a necessary need in each of our lives. Aware of the role and importance of Books and Reading Culture, since 2014, the Government has decided to make April 21 every year as Day of Vietnam Book in order to encourage and develop the reading movement in the community, raising people's awareness of the meaning and importance of reading for knowledge and skills development, thinking development, education and personality training.

The organization and propaganda of Day of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture aims to implement the guidelines and policies of the Party and State on the development of reading culture; implementing the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress on building and promoting Vietnamese cultural values and human strength; Directive No. 42-CT/TW, dated 25/8/2004 of CPV Central Committee on Improving the comprehensive quality of publishing activities; especially implementing the conclusions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Cultural Conference on November 24, 2021; This is also an activity to implement Decision No. 1862/QD-TTg dated November 4, 2021 of the Prime Minister on the organization of Day of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture, at the same time, it is one of the practical activities to celebrate the important events of the country: 47 years of the liberation of the South and reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2022), 132 years of birth. President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2022).

From 2014 to now, Lao Cai as well as localities in the country have spent 8 years implementing Day of Vietnam Book; there was hundreds of organizations and individuals inside and outside the province have donated and supported poor children in the highlands of Lao Cai with nearly 70,000 books, worth over 1.3 billion VND. The Day of Vietnam Book. Vietnam Book Day has become an annual festival, widely held at all levels of libraries, schools and localities throughout the province. From 2021, Lao Cai province also organized the Lao Cai Provincial Reading Culture Ambassador Contest. The contest has created a healthy and useful playground, so that book lovers can share good books and spread reading habits, contributing to forming reading habits and skills, promoting development of reading culture in schools and communities.

At the launching ceremony, Hoang Quoc Khanh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee Hoang Quoc Khanh launched Day of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture with theme: “Books - Mission to develop reading culture” and the message “Let's inspire the fire of reading culture to the community”. At the same time, he also emphasized that "Developing reading culture in the community is an issue that has always been paid great attention by the Party and State and has issued many specific guidelines, policies, guiding documents and directions, instructions. In order to spread and develop sustainably the reading culture in the community, especially to maintain the reading culture in the digital age, I suggest: All levels, branches and localities need to organize many programs, meaningful activities to arouse a passion for reading and develop reading culture in the community. At the same time, strong communication is needed to raise public awareness about the role of Books and Reading Culture; How to spread the love of books in everyone, especially among young people.”

In 2022, in addition to the launching ceremony, the highlight of this year's Day  of Book and Reading Culture activities will be: Lao Cai Province Reading Culture Ambassador Contest 2022; organize Day of Book and Reading Culture in the school system, in the library system, in cultural houses; organize Day of Book and Reading Culture through the publishing and distribution system in order to improve knowledge and skills, develop thinking, educate and train human personality; encouraging and developing the reading movement in the community, creating a favorable reading environment; forming reading habits in families, schools, agencies and organizations; contributing to building a learning society, especially in the digital age.

At the launching ceremony, students from 3 schools (Nguyen Du Primary School, Le Quy Don Secondary School, No. 1 High School in Lao Cai City) participated in the topic Introducing their favorite book. By theatrical form, each book that students from each school brought to the ceremony contributed to conveying meaningful messages about the content of the stories: Love for the motherland, country, love for family and forming the habit of reading books every day.

The organizing board has launched to support books and praised and rewarded 14 agencies and units that have made many contributions in donating and supporting books for schools in the province over the past time. With the purpose of building and forming reading habits, over the past time, the model of “mobile library car with multimedia” is like a new breeze to help students, especially students in remote areas. have conditions to access information and knowledge, bring interesting reading experiences for readers, contribute to raising people's intellectual level, gradually build reading culture at grassroots level. Mobile library cars bring books to more distant places, contributing to bringing knowledge and developing reading culture to remote areas, cultivating knowledge, arousing a passion for reading, and supporting children in learning. Immediately after the launching ceremony, the delegates and students of the schools visited, experienced the book display and read books in the mobile library car of the Provincial Library.
