Workshop introducing traditional handicraft products associated with biodiversity elements of Hoang Lien National Park

In the morning of May 16, in Sa Pa town, the Center for Conservation and Development of Water Resources collaborated with Hoang Lien National Park to organize a workshop sharing and introducing traditional handicraft products associated with biodiversity factors of Hoang Lien National Park.

The workshop is part of the grant program on the conservation and sustainable management of ASEAN Heritage Parks (SGP II Project), funded by the German Development Bank (KfW) through the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB).

At the workshop, delegates were introduced to traditional products associated with the biodiversity of Hoang Lien National Park that are designed and produced by members of interest groups, including images of project activities and applicable products (tablecloths, lanterns, traditional costumes in new design styles, etc.).

Representatives of departments, agencies, enterprises, cooperatives, and community groups exchanged and discussed patterns, motifs, cultural values, and applicability of products designed by community groups. At the same time, they proposed initiatives to preserve and develop traditional handicraft products associated with biodiversity factors in Hoang Lien National Park.

Sa Pa town has implemented the project since January 2025, with 3 handicraft interest groups in Lao Hang Chai village, Hoang Lien commune, Seo My Ty village, Ta Van commune, Ban Den village and Ban Ho commune. With the help and support of the project, the groups have designed and created unique traditional handicraft products with modern and environmentally friendly motifs.

The workshop aims to promote and showcase traditional products associated with the biodiversity of Hoang Lien National Park to local authorities, businesses, and cooperatives in Sa Pa Town in particular, and Lao Cai Province as a whole. The event seeks to foster the development of a network that supports these products, thereby enhancing their economic value for the local community.
