Lao Cai is a mountainous, border province facing many difficulties, with over 182 km of border shared with Yunnan Province (China), and is primarily inhabited by ethnic minorities. In recent years, Lao Cai province has made efforts to invest in education development, but the learning and living conditions of students in the highlands remain limited, requiring continued attention and investment.
To date, Lao Cai province has started construction on 4 out of 9 multi-level boarding schools in border communes. The groundbreaking ceremony for the project in Ban Lau is the next step in completing the school system, creating better learning conditions for students, contributing to raising the intellectual level of the people, and training local human resources.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province affirmed that the locality is committed to ensuring the progress and quality of the projects, completing the four schools in the first phase before August 30, 2026, for use in the 2026-2027 school year. At the same time, they will continue to prepare the conditions for implementing subsequent projects, strengthen inspection and supervision, and prevent any negative incidents, losses, or waste.
Upon completion, the Ban Lau Primary and Secondary Boarding School will contribute to improving the quality of education, strengthening national unity, creating a solid foundation for socio-economic development, and ensuring national defense and security in the border region.
According to the approved investment plan, phase 2 of 5 projects to build boarding schools for primary and secondary levels in Lao Cai includes 5 schools: Trinh Tuong Primary and Secondary Boarding School; Ban Lau Primary and Secondary Boarding School; Ban Vuoc Primary and Secondary Boarding School; Si Ma Cai Primary and Secondary Boarding School; and Ban Phiệt Primary and Secondary Boarding School.
