On May 25, the Professional Council decided to use and store electronic medical records instead of paper medical records, store and transmit medical images instead of printing films, store test information instead of printing paper. The Council, chaired by Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quy Tuong, former Director of the Department of Information Technology - Ministry of Health, Chairman of the Vietnam Medical Informatics Association, had a meeting to assess and evaluate the conditions for implementing electronic medical records at Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital.

The Appraisal Council also includes experts from the Department of Science, Technology and Training of the Ministry of Health; Hanoi Department of Health; Lao Cai Department of Health; Hanoi Medical University Hospital; Thai Nguyen C Hospital; Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital.

Through the implementation solutions: His, Lis, Pacs, digital signatures and hospital management software, the implementation of electronic medical records at the Provincial General Hospital has been basically completed in accordance with the criteria guided by the Ministry of Health and has been applied since the end of April 2025 with many positive results.

Currently, 100% of the hospital's departments and rooms are equipped with information technology infrastructure to ensure synchronous and continuous connection; equipment, patient reception system using VssID, patient calling system, image diagnosis and automatic sample collection, thereby overcoming long waiting times, reducing pressure on medical staff, completing a closed process of applying information technology in medical examination and treatment, etc.

Council member evaluates the conditions for implementing electronic medical records at the Provincial General Hospital.

At the appraisal session, the Council members appraised equipment, information technology infrastructure, and software systems for managing and operating medical examination and treatment activities at centers, departments, and rooms to evaluate the criteria according to Circular No. 46/2018/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health.

As a result, 15/15 members of the Appraisal Council unanimously decided that Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital is qualified to deploy electronic medical records.

Concluding the meeting, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quy Tuong affirmed: The successful construction of electronic medical records affirms the continuous efforts of hospital medical staff; creating an important breakthrough in applying information technology to digitalize in medical examination, treatment and hospital management activities, contributing to reducing administrative costs, arising costs, and reducing the burden on the health insurance fund.

Lao Cai General Hospital has 930 beds, 40 centers, departments, and rooms; the total number of staff, civil servants, and employees is 736 people. On average, the hospital receives over 1,000 patients for medical examination and over 900 inpatients every day. Successfully implementing electronic medical records helps reduce administrative procedures and patient waiting time, while creating convenience for patients and medical staff from the reception process to examination, diagnosis, and treatment.
