Xuan Quang: A vibrant Gau Tao Festival in the Spring of the Year of the Horse 2026
On the morning of February 19th (the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year), amidst the vibrant atmosphere of early spring, Xuan Quang commune inaugurated the Spring Festival of the Year of the Horse 2026 in Lang Cung 1 village. The event attracted a large number of local people and tourists from all over to visit and participate in the festivities.

The shamans performed the ceremony under the ceremonial pole in the middle of the field in Cung Village 1.
From early morning, beneath the tall ceremonial pole erected in the middle of the fields of Lang Cung 1 village, the ceremony took place solemnly with traditional rituals of the Mong people, presided over by the village's shamans. Amidst the melodious sounds of the Hmong flute and the resounding songs of prayer for a bountiful harvest, the villagers shared their hopes for a new year of favorable weather, abundant crops, and family health and peace.

Following the ceremony, the festive atmosphere became vibrant with cultural performances showcasing the unique characteristics of the ethnic communities in the commune, creating a diverse and lively cultural tapestry amidst the spring festivities.

A series of traditional folk games such as throwing the ball, catching ducks, walking on a monkey bridge, and picking flowers for democracy were organized, attracting participants of all ages. In particular, the tug-of-war competition generated excitement and laughter, bringing a lively atmosphere to the festival.

According to the organizers, the Spring Festival of Gầu Tào in Xuân Quang commune, 2026 (Year of the Horse), will take place over three days, from February 19th to 21st (the 3rd to 5th day of the Lunar New Year). The plan includes a cultural exchange program and bonfire on the evening of February 21st, promising warm moments, community bonding, and wishes for a peaceful new year.
