Ceremony to honor the Ancestral Tea Tree in Suoi Giang
Within the framework of Shan Tuyet Tea Festival 2025, this morning (November 22), Van Chan Commune People's Committee organized the Ceremony to honor the ancestral tea tree - an important ritual in the spiritual life of the Mong ethnic group. The ceremony took place in a solemn, sacred atmosphere, attracting a large number of people and tourists.
Right from early morning, at the center of Giang B village, delegates and People witnessed the procession. Leading the procession was the main offering tray of the Commune People's Committee, followed by ones of villages - each tray was prepared with the freshest local products. All show the reverence of the people sent to heaven, earth, and the tea god - the god trusted by the Mong people to have protected, granted blessings, and good crops throughout the past year.

In the solemn prayer, village elder Giang A Dang on behalf of the Mong community in Suoi Giang sent thanks to heaven and earth, and prayed for favorable rain and wind, bountiful harvests, and a life of ease and abundance.

The ritual recreates the journey of establishing villages of the Mong people on the high mountains of Suoi Giang, closely associated with the ancient Shan Tuyet tea tree - the tea species identified by scientists as one of the important ancestors of tea varieties worldwide.

Currently, Suoi Giang has over 500 ha of Shan Tuyet tea, of which about 400 trees from 100 - 300 years old have been recognized as Vietnam Heritage Trees. The tea tree not only carries cultural value but also creates sustainable livelihoods, contributing to poverty reduction for the Mong community herein.
