On the morning of June 4, at the Provincial Conference Center, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Quoc Khanh had a meeting and worked with a delegation including agencies of the organizations: WHO, UN Women, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNEP; sponsors from the Australian and New Zealand Embassies in Vietnam led by Dr. Angela Pratt Maree, Chief Representative of the World Health Organization in Vietnam (WHO).

Attending the meeting were leaders of departments and branches: Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Lao Cai province, Foreign Affairs, Finance, Agriculture and Environment, Health, Education and Training, Provincial Women's Union, Provincial People's Committee Office.

The purpose of the delegation’s visit to Lao Cai this time is for the project sponsors and managers to grasp the project results to date, record the impacts on the lives of beneficiaries, and strengthen and develop partnerships between sponsors and local authorities. For Lao Cai province, this is also an opportunity to introduce the potential and strengths of the locality, and continue to call for support from the United Nations and foreign diplomatic agencies in Vietnam in the coming time.

At the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Quoc Khanh expressed his pleasure to welcome the delegation to visit and work in Lao Cai province. The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized: Storm No. 3 in 2024 (Yagi) has passed, but still left serious damage to people, infrastructure, production of the State, People, businesses, cooperatives... In the face of these difficulties, Lao Cai province has received attention and support from domestic and foreign organizations, including WHO, UNFPA, UN Women, UNICEF... Such support is very practical, contributing to helping people stabilize their lives after storms and floods, maintain and restore their livelihoods, and prepare recovery skills.

Before working with the province, the delegation had a field trip to a number of locations benefiting from projects and support programs. Dr. Angela Pratt Maree, Chief Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Vietnam, on behalf of the delegation, expressed deep sympathy for the difficulties Lao Cai experienced after the natural disaster in 2024. However, through the delegation's visit to a number of localities and meetings with local people, it was shown that Lao Cai has risen strongly after the natural disaster. The delegation acknowledged and highly appreciated the results of the implementation of support projects by UN WOWEN, UNFPA, UNEP, WHO, UNICEF, and sponsors from New Zealand and Australia in Lao Cai related to livelihoods , social security, health, and education for women, children, and the elderly in mountainous areas, ethnic minority areas, and areas affected by natural disasters. In particular, they highly appreciated the attention to medical, educational, and psychological support for children in disaster areas.

At the meeting, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Quoc Khanh affirmed that Lao Cai's achievements in overcoming the consequences of natural disasters were primarily due to the active participation of the Party Committee and local authorities, in addition to the spirit of solidarity, self-reliance, and mutual support of the people in the disaster-affected areas. The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also affirmed that in addition to the above factors, the assistance of domestic and foreign organizations and individuals, especially the timely support of Australia, New Zealand, international organizations: WHO, UNFPA, UN Women, UNICEF... has created a sustainable driving force for Lao Cai to overcome the consequences of natural disasters and steadily develop its socio-economy.
