The city also has a national intangible cultural heritage ranked in 1996 as the Thuong Temple Festival, whose hundreds of years old banyan tree has been recognized as the Vietnam Heritage Tree.

To improve the quality of service to tourists, Lao Cai city has stepped up the restoration, embellishment, repair and upgrading of many relics items with a budget of more than 56 billion VND. Up to now, there are 4 tourist spots recognized by the Provincial People's Committee, including: Spiritual tourist site of Thuong temple, Mau temple (Lao Cai ward); the spiritual tourist site of Doi Co temple, Cam Lo pagoda (Binh Minh ward); spiritual tourist sites of Quan and Cam temples (Pho Moi ward); spiritual tourist destination Van Hoa temple (Van Hoa commune). The number of tourists coming to the city in recent years has continuously increased. As of October 2019, the city welcomed 2.89 million visitors, up 37% over the same period in 2018; Revenue from tourism increased by more than 40%. Tourism development has created an important resource to invest in the management, conservation and promotion of cultural heritage values, as a driving force for the development of trade and services.
