Lao Cai and Kien Giang signed a cooperation agreement to promote trade of typical products and OCOP products.

On April 21, in Lao Cai city, the Department of Finance of Lao Cai province coordinated with the Department of Industry and Trade of Kien Giang province to organize a conference to connect trade and promote consumption of typical products, OCOP products, and typical rural industrial products of Kien Giang and Lao Cai provinces.

The conference was attended by leaders of relevant departments, branches and units of the two provinces; 8 enterprises of Kien Giang province and 11 enterprises of Lao Cai province.

Lao Cai province has a particularly important position as the "gateway" and "bridge" between Vietnam and ASEAN countries and the vast Southwest region of China. Since 2021, promoting its role as a bridge, Lao Cai province has taken the lead in coordinating with many units and localities to organize trade promotion activities and develop foreign trade. Currently, Lao Cai province has 296 OCOP products, 49 typical rural industrial products, and 385 products considered as commodities.

In recent years, many enterprises from localities in the country in general and Kien Giang province in particular have participated in trade promotion events organized by Lao Cai province, especially enterprises producing and trading agricultural and aquatic products, and products from bird's nest. Many enterprises from Lao Cai also participate in trade promotion events organized by Kien Giang province and other provinces and cities in the country.

However, Kien Giang province has not yet had any trade promotion activities specifically for businesses of the two localities. The conference on connecting trade, promoting the consumption of typical products, OCOP products, typical rural industrial products of Kien Giang and Lao Cai provinces opens up opportunities for businesses of the two provinces to connect, sign agreements, cooperation, and economic contracts. This activity contributes to promoting businesses of the two provinces to produce and do business well, attracting many products, goods, and businesses of Kien Giang province to participate in import and export through Lao Cai international border gate.

At this conference, 5 business pairs from the 2 provinces signed a memorandum of understanding on economic cooperation.

The signing will contribute to bringing many products and goods of Kien Giang province to be distributed and consumed in Lao Cai; attracting many products and goods and enterprises of Kien Giang province to participate in import and export through Lao Cai border gate, contributing to promoting economic growth of the two provinces.
